Sharpie paint pen wallpaper?
I had been trying to find fun, creative ways to decorate our nursery for weeks with wallpaper but found it was so dang expensive unless you found a reputable peel & stick wallpaper (which is out there!) But just a little over budget for our nursery!
We are not finding out the gender of our baba to be, which also made it a lot harder to find something gender neutral along with… also something me and my husband both agree on.
We were initially looking at wallpaper and found it was going to cost around $200 for one wall…. and with a baby in the way, not something we were gonna be too happy spending… so we took to it with a sharpie paint pen instead! I found a pattern we liked and took the idea to the hubs who ran with it! And if all else failed we’d have to swallow the $200!
We bought two sharpie paint pens in black, and measured out our wall width.
We spaced the lines equal amounts to where we were going to center our points and marked with a pencil. We then took our super duper long ruler and made vertical lines down the whole wall, all the way across…. You can do this using a piece of cardboard, regular ruler too.
I don’t have a picture so here is an oh so professional sketch!
We then measured our wall length and spaced the lines equal amounts to create where we will start the herringbone pattern. See below sketch again…. you get the idea!
You could double line like we did, or single line like the sketch above, it really is your preference.
If you double line just repeat the line going to the point … about 1 inch to 1/2 an inch below
It took us around half a day to get this all lined out with a couple breaks in between…
There were some smudges so we just corrected those with some white paint, using a q-tip.
This whole project cost us just over $5! And we didn’t even use the second sharpie pen….We were a little worried that it would look too masculine at first but after we put the rest of the baby stuff in the room with the soft furnishings, it totally softened the room and now the nursery is ready for him or her! 🌿
