Hi lovelies! You may have seen last month we had the opportunity for a short break away!
We were needing a little serenity after months of WFH with no childcare, launching a business and trying to stay sane! and needed a change of scenery, who’s with me!?
When looking at going away together, it took some planning, we needed somewhere close, safe and familiar. New England is full of beautiful views and wonders, especially once the grueling hot summer days are over and you can stay outside for longer than 15 minutes without breaking a sweat! We chose to go to Mystic for our short break, it’s close to our home and has all the New England charm one would desire for a quick escape… and enough to satisfy our craving for a little travel after a tough few months!
I must admit we were a teeniest bit nervous about how restaurants, hotels and establishments are handling social distancing and “covid related stuff”. We had not much wondered out of our local comfort zone. I think it was safe to say we were pleasantly surprised. Of course I was after a cutey interior hotel, and within close proximity.
We stayed at The Whalers Inn in Mystic , presented with a sweet check in desk outside to prevent congregation in their reception area. Hand sanitizer stations throughout the hotel lobby, reception area, and entrances and exits. Our room was absolutely spotless. They had unfortunately and fortunately (if you know you know) removed some of their soft furnishings and decor to prevent any cross contamination, but was still beautiful never the less. Their hotel has a New England charm dream, decorated with a nod to the town, and all things coastal, with little vintage details!
My tip: Bring a light blanket with you so you can cozy up on the porch and enjoy a glass of red wine outside before or after dinner!
The Whalers Inn also has a GREAT restaurant attached to their hotel. I know what you’re thinking… restaurant attached to the hotel, how good can it be? Let me tell you… it was damn right DELICIOUS and again, extremely empathetic to all things covid related! Located right in the heart of downtown Mystic The Shipwright’s Daughter Restaurant is a new addition to Mystic’s array of beautiful eateries. They offer a mouth watering menu of shoreline inspired plates, with oh so dreamy cocktails.
Our welcome was truly a warm and embracing one. The next morning we got onto exploring mystic! With The Whalers Inn located centrally, we were able to walk and explore all local stores, and attractions. The perfect quintessential New England necessity.
We walked through the town to the oh so famous Mystic Pizza! I have visited Mystic before but not been to this gem. Famous for the movie, but unapologetically famous as it should be for its delectable pizza! A MUST TRY!
After this, myself and my husband actually opted for a massage! A first indulgence for both of us at the same time, and let me tell you…. It set our little getaway off to the right start! Walking back from our massage with only delights on our faces we walked along the town, stopping at all the sweet stores and swooning over the flower dressed boxes! We got our glad rags on (and masks too!) and went to dinner at S&P Oyster Bar! Another must try! As I am typing, I now realize this post is predominantly about food and I am not sad about it!
We enjoyed a sunset dinner on the water, candlelit and twinkle lights outside. If you know me, I have a soft spot for those twinkle lights! Only to think about our departure the next day. It was truly special, a perfect way to escape and stay local all at the same time. Every business in Mystic went above and beyond to keep us and themselves safe during this time. We visited September 27th, and can’t wait to come back.
Mystic you’ll have a special place in my heart, and you keep on giving, until next time. I can’t wait to discover more!

We stayed at the whalers inn because of this blog post! We had such a great time with our two kiddos, and restaraunt attached was so delicious! Thanks for the good read!
